The One Thing Excel Template

Three years ago I read “The One Thing” by Gary Keller. This book created some new perspective on my private and job-related life. The author brought is own company back on the road to success. Later he wrote this astonishing book.

What is really important?

Basically the author emphasizes that you have to know which activity is really necessary for your private and job-related progress.

Unfortunately this is really hard today. There are so much distractions and some of them are made by ourselfs. Before I make that important call

  • I clean my desk
  • or I check my e-mail-account
  • or I get a cup of coffee and have a chat with the colleagues.

There are plenty of reasons for procrastination!

Even to-do-list are not the best way to organize your day. Sure, you have a good overview of what to do, but you can’t see the “big thing” and mostly all the things are more overwhelming but helpful.
When you use to-do-list the right way (as an extra to the one-thing), they are OK, but in this article we’re talking about the big picture.

We concentrate on the one thing, that is really important for us.

Goal setting with Excel

First we start to imagine, what we want to do “someday”. Then we split this time-frame into smaller parts. What do we want to have achieved in 5 years. What in one year, in one month, in one week and what today?!

This is the description to the book:

YOU WANT LESS.
You want fewer distractions and less on your plate. The daily barrage of e-mails, texts, tweets, messages, and meetings distract you and stress you out. The simultaneous demands of work and family are taking a toll. And what’s the cost? Second-rate work, missed deadlines, smaller pay cheques, fewer promotions-and lots of stress.
AND YOU WANT MORE.
You want more productivity from your work. More income for a better lifestyle. You want more satisfaction from life, and more time for yourself, your family, and your friends.
NOW YOU CAN HAVE BOTH-LESS AND MORE.
In The ONE Thing, you’ll learn to cut through the clutter achieve better results in less time build momentum toward your goal dial down the stress overcome that overwhelmed feeling
revive your energy stay on track master what matters to you
The ONE Thing is the New York Times bestseller which delivers extraordinary results in every area of your life-work, personal, family, and spiritual.
WHAT’S YOUR ONE THING?

I made an Excel-Template for the One Thing as a means of assistance. You can write down your daily, weekly, monthly and annual goals on two excel-sheets. One for weekly and the other for the big overview.
